The Duggars visit Camden

The Duggar family, of TLC's 19 Kids & Counting, were in Camden, Mich., this week to perform special music for a conference.

Since that's pretty close to home, we went up to gawk (sad, but true) and I took a photo for the paper - and lots of photos and video for home.

I think we were all a little amazed when they all started getting off their bus - they look just like the Duggars on TV!

Jim Bob Duggar (the dad) came around and shook lots of hands and handed out a family photo. He spent quite a bit of time just chatting with people and really seemed to be a genuinely nice guy.

The kids seemed to be very friendly and, well, just regular kids. One of the little boys was holding a little sister - and kind of looked like he was going to break her in half - I think the same one was trying to climb a tent pole, one of the little girls was twirling around a tent pole - luckily not long enough to make herself sick. One family took a picture of their children with some of the Duggar kids and one of the little Duggar boys went right over to the dad with the camera to check it out.

Michelle and baby Josie were the only family members that didn't make the trip. Hopefully, they had a little time to relax and recover from everything they've been through.

Lots of people have their opinions on the Duggar family - some for, some against. Some people may think they're just plain crazy. Living with just four girls, I think that could be at least partly true. After seeing them in person though, I think that mostly they are a nice, normal family - just a little larger than most.

  1. They want you to believe they are harmless, but they're actually part of the Quiverfull movement, a Christian dominionist group that wants to control your life with their particular religious beliefs. Google "Quiverfull" and "Razing Ruth" for more information on how their lifestyle affects people, and how the Duggars lived before scoring a deal with TLC.

  2. Anyone who believes the Quiverfull people want to control everyone else exposes themselves as a nut. There are things not to like about the Quiverfull movement but the notion that they're interested in controlling everyone else is absurd.

  3. Uhm, Dominionist Theory is no joke. Do some googling, or keep spewing your absurd notions and prove you're a nut

  4. Dominionist Theory is no joke, but yeah, keep calling people nuts, if it helps you.

  5. In addition to googling the above, search for the No Longer Quivering blog, or check out the book "Quivering Daughters."

Just because someone doesn't believe the Duggar hype doesn't make them "nuts."

  6. It was a fun and spiritual event, I went every night and couldn't wait for the next. They are somewhat "normal" kids and parents, just a lot more of them than average. I truly enjoyed Tom Harmon also and initially went to see the Duggars but then found myself there to hear Tom. I hope they come again, great time and a lot of people put a lot of work into getting them here. Thank You.
