Anyone know a pet therapist?

Poor Eloise, she's a little dog trapped in a big body. The biggest baby ever. (That's her at my parents' house - the doggy door fits their yorkie a little better.)

My parents brought the dogs a present - a nice, big outdoor enclosure - this weekend so that Eloise and Tucker (our shih tzu) could spend some time outside when the weather is nice. We spent all afternoon Sunday putting the thing together.

Tucker absolutely loves it - laying in the sun, occasionally barking and taunting the two huge rottweilers chained up two yards over - oh yeah, in his mind he could take them.

Eloise is, of course, an entirely different story. She's perfectly fine as long as someone stays in there with her - which kind of defeats the whole purpose of the thing. She gets a little whiny and whimpers a bit if someone sits right outside the enclosure - close enough to touch. But leave her sight? Forget it - she's letting everyone in the neighborhood know she's being tortured in the worst possible way.

Even with all the comforts of the house - food, water, snacks, toys - she's having nothing to do with that place unless at least one of her people is in there with her. We've started taking her out for a little bit at a time and trying to make it a fun experience - did I mention I watch a lot of Victoria Stillwell on Animal Planet? She's my idol. But I'm not sure if even Victoria could cure Eloise of her separation anxiety.

  1. Does Eloise have a bit of Labrador in her DNA? Labs are THE most neurotic dogs ever, but I think that's why we love them so much. BTW, she's cute.

  2. Jamers how do you find the time to doggysit? You are SuperMom, OctoMom has nothing on you :) Now, we just need to find you a logo ...

  3. When we adopted Ellie they told us she's an Australian sheperd/collie mix - she's hyper and herds small children like an Aussie and sheds like a collie - we haven't put anybody down a well yet to test her other collie traits - but like both breeds, she's smart (or at least smarter than me) 'cause she always manages to get her way. But maybe there is a little crazy Lab in there somewhere.

  4. Gwen,
I can always make time to sit in the backyard and do nothing - or I can get a kid to do it - it's one of the few jobs I can give them that they don't whine about. Really, nobody wants to see me in my tights and cape - and OctoMom is making tons more money than I am!:)
